About the studio

Spotted Frog Pottery Studio opened in 2015 as a local ceramic pottery studio providing a relaxed space for people of all ages to have fun with clay and to learn a skill where they can let their imagination and creative side free. Being able to take a clump of clay and turn it into something useful and unique gives a great sense of achievement and boosts self-esteem.

The Spotted Frog Studio is for people who would like to take pottery up as a hobby and learn the skill of creating with clay and want to have a regular creative outlet.

What to expect at The Spotted Frog Studio?

  • A relaxed space for people to explore their creativity with clay.

  • Beginners are always welcome and after a couple of sessions where the basics of working with clay and some general techniques are taught, you’ll have the knowledge to bring your own ideas to life but rest assured that help, advice and guidance is always on hand when needed.

  • Everyone works on their own creations at their own pace and extra creativity is encouraged to make your item unique and special. We like to experiment with different techniques and finishes.

  • Importantly it is a space of creativity, encouragement, learning and self-discovery, developing a skill, an outlet and breakaway from daily stress.

  • Meet new people, make new friendships, get inspired by others.

  • It is a community where we chat and laugh and support each other.

Taking pottery classes has been one of the best things I’ve done for my mental health. The simple act of working with clay helps me slow down, stay present and release the stress I carry from work. It’s become a creative outlet that eases my anxiety and gives me space to breathe. Sometimes the best therapy really is found in your own hands.

As a software developer, much of my work lives in precision and predictability. Ceramics offers the counterbalance: a rare meeting of control and abandon. Clay is tangible, grounding and full of surprises. Plans can guide the hands, but the material always has its own say.

The practice is a kind of meditation. Shaping and forming draws one into a flow state, a quiet space of connection without expectation or ego. Rather than striving for flawless results, ceramics reveals the value of impermanence and the beauty of imperfection.

Every crack or warp becomes part of a story, a reminder that creativity flourishes not only in discipline but also in surrender, guided by a teacher who holds the space with generosity and patience, inviting each person to discover their own path.

Pottery with Jenny has been more than just learning a skill, it’s been a way to slow down and get out of my head. She creates a space where it’s okay to mess up, to try again, and just focus on the clay (and a glass of wine). It’s simple, calming, and exactly what I didn’t know I needed.

Finding calm at The Spotted Frog. As a designer, I spend most of my time creating behind a screen, so discovering pottery has been such a refreshing shift for me. Working in 3D and with my hands has challenged me in new ways and given me a real sense of balance. Not being behind a computer but creating something tangible in the real world has been a huge boost for my mental health, helping me to feel grounded and present. Jenny’s studio is such a welcoming space; she has a way of making everyone feel at home, and it’s become a little sanctuary for me. It’s more than just making something beautiful, it’s a chance to slow down, connect, and find a bit of calm in the clay.

graphic designer

My time spent with Jenny at The Spotted Frog has changed over the years. What started as a fun few hours out a week harnessing a bit of creativity to becoming more confident in my abilities thanks to Jen’s encouragement. Jenny is absolutely incredible, her talent is outstanding. But more than that, Jen has managed to create a unique and safe space for us. Her gentle and serene nature seems to allow for freedom of thought, a safe haven for the outpouring of our sorrows or our heartfelt celebrations. I love at time just listening to the general chatter of those around me while I either sand away at my creation or just mold the clay between my fingers. These two actions allow me to escape almost. I find it hypnotizing and it quietens my racing brain. It is an active meditation.
